Natural, Grain-Free, Gluten-Free, Delicious!
JK Gourmet claims their granola "just might be the best granola you've ever tasted!" We have to agree with them—it is the best granola we've tasted!
Located in Toronto, Canada, Grain-Free JK Gourmet was started in 2001 by Jodi Bager. Jodi was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis in 2000 and set about trying to find a way to live a drug–free life. She was convinced that the key to controlling the disease would be to change what she ate. Her research showed that eliminating complex carbohydrates and sugar from her diet would be her path to gaining control of the disease that ruled her life. Jodi started cooking and baking with the ingredients she was allowed to include in her diet and felt better. Out of the need to make the foods she should eat taste better, JK Gourmet was born.
KosherEye spoke with Steven Bager, who joined his wife in the business three years ago. He shared the early years of the company with us. Jodi started "production" in the family’s kitchen and sold her grain-free granola to a few neighborhood stores. The product was so well received that the Bagers converted their basement into a commercial kitchen. Last year, 2009, the operation was moved to a full service kitchen facility. Included in the move to the new facility was the decision to have all JK Gourmet products KSA kosher certified.
KosherEye tasted, and finished, the grain–free Nuts & Raisins Original Granola. It was positively delicious— and the best part—it was healthy! Made from sunflower seeds, organic raisins, unsweetened coconut, walnuts, almonds, honey, pecans, pumpkins seed and sesame seeds; we ate it straight from the bag, and also sprinkled it on our yogurt. The combination of flavors and crunch was perfect. In addition to the Original flavor, there is Hazel Nut and Date, Mission Fig and Apricot, Apple Spice and Raisin, and the newest, Cranberry Cashew.
All JK Gourmet products are grain-free, gluten-free, honey or fruit sweetened and contain no preservatives or artificial sweeteners. The product line also includes Almond Flour; a perfect ingredient for gluten–free baking. It can be used in making pie crusts, cakes, cookies, and muffins. We recommend this delicious, healthful, granola. Try it on ice cream or yogurt. Keep a few bags in the freezer.
